Sector Qualifier : Philadelphia
Obviously I had a great time. What can be better than going with your son to a card game tournament based on a license you cherished for over 40 years. And the game is actually really good. But enough about that, you are here because you share the passion and you want to know more from someone who went. Well here's my brain dump for you guys, no social network crap.
Drafting Process
After sitting at our assigned seats we were given six boosters, a box of sleeves, a playmat and a swag bag, along with the sheet listing all the cards in the set the we'd use as a checklist for the cards we opened.
We'd open our packs when told to. Count and fan them out to the person across from you to verify the pack had one leader, one token/base, and the rest rarities you would expect (and that the booster had all the cards). Then you would sign your sheet as inspector and pass your cards to the person across from you. They would proceed to document the cards on the sheet. When done everything is passed back and then verified by yourself. Then you build your initial deck and mark the cards you chose on the sheet. Then they take the sheets away from you, so take a picture of it.
After the first game in each round you can freely sideboard from all the cards on the sheet. Even leaders and bases. This happened a couple of times, so be aware its a valid option people are using.
The Deck
The deck I ended up playing with is here : https://swudb.com/deck/qejzancQ
I went 4-4-1 with it, which is honestly better than I was expecting. I didn't have any super strong cards other than Chirrut and Talzin herself carried me a couple of games.
Brain dump:
- You can play Darth Revan's Lightsaber on a Tauntaun.
- Fetching Chirrut using Flight of the Inquisitor is better than I expected.
- Third Sage and Savage Opress is a good combo, wrecked me since I couldn't remove it.
- Sorcerous Blast and Drain Essence are underrated.
- I think I've played Kylo Ren, I know your Story enough to decided he's not great unless you focus a deck on him. There are better two cost units and I tend to resource him.
- Jedi Holocron was worth paying the aspect penalty. Won me a game.
- I'm warming up to Tauntaun. If we see more creature support I might play with it more.
- In a Force meta, Nameless Terror is as good as you think it is.
Here is my favorite playmat from the day :
